Silly Elf Sentences Freebie

Last year I did these silly elf sentences  with my students.

They loved working on this activity and would ask me every day if they could write their elf sentences.

First we created an elf adjectives anchor chart for the children to use when they were writing their sentences.

There were three parts to the sentences.

1. Who ~ this is where the children used the adjectives on the anchor chart.
2. What ~ the elf did
3. Where ~ the elf did it.

They wrote their sentences and illustrated them in the elf books I made.

If you would like to do this activity with your students you can get it from

My whole store will have 20% off.
And if you put in the Promo Code

That's 28% off altogether.

As I told you, we are putting on a Christmas concert and it is hectic at school.

We have been practicing every day and are counting down till we perform our "major production".

It has been a lot of hard work for everyone, teachers and children.

The children are very excited to be going up on stage and I know the parents will love it whatever happens.

I have managed to sneak in some Christmas craft with the classes I teach.

We made these cute plum puddings last week.

They are included in my latest pack on TPT HERE.

Christmas Fun

Christmas is just around the corner and it is a very busy time for teachers down here in Australia.

I have made a little pack to keep your students engaged and motivated.

This pack has a ton of literacy and maths activities to keep your children busy and learning over this festive season.
And what make this more appealing, there is no preparation, no coloured ink and no laminating needed.

I have also included a little reader as well as a cute plum pudding craft activity.

If you are interested it is available at
TPT HERE

Also.... coming soon,

I am joining up with some Aussie bloggers for a fun

Elf on the Shelf

I LOVE the festive season.
For us here in Australia, it is nearly the end of our school year.  We begin our summer holidays just before Christmas.

We are expecting a very hot summer. Summer has not yet begun and already we have had several bad bushfires with many people losing their homes.

I know this is a cliche but I would love to have a white Christmas just once.
It is on my 'bucket list'.

It is C-R-A-Z-Y busy at school at present. We have our end of year reports to write and still try to keep up the momentum in the classroom.

As well we are putting on a BIG Christmas concert.
Just quietly, it was my idea!!

I always enjoy all the fun Christmas activities with my children.

Last year I had a heap of fun with The Elf on the Shelf with my little ones.
Our elf was a girl! I remember one of my children declaring.... "but elves aren't girls!!"

Our elf ~ Twinkles, as the children named her, would pop up in a different place each day. My children would eagerly arrive every morning to see where she was hiding.

 Oh what fun!
Kindergarten is such a joy. I love seeing their little beaming faces, full of curiosity.

Of course we made our own little Elf.

We wrote about what we do when we are being 'nice'

Sounds, Words Sentences

This little blog of mine sure has been neglected.
As I told you, I am not in the classroom at present.
I do miss all the fun that goes with having a class.

For part of the day, when I'm not teaching Reading Recovery, I teach lots of different classes.
I have been doing a Science Unit about Space with my classes. I will be posting this unit on TPT soon.
As well I have a fun freebie that I will be posting for you, so don't give up on me!!

I wanted to show you my sounds / come writing activity that I did with my Kinders last year.
I call it Sounds Words Sentences.

The purpose behind this activity is to show my little learners the big picture when learning sounds.
Starting with a 'mystery sentence' we find a word beginning with a letter and then the sound in that word.

I have a mystery sentence to go with each letter of the alphabet.

I laminate the words for the sentence and cut them up.
I put magnetic tape on the back and use it on the big magnetic board. You could also do this with a pocket chart.

It becomes an interactive lesson where we reconstruct the jumbled mystery sentence.
I use this as an opportunity to do some explicit teaching about sentence structure, ie capitals, spaces, and punctuation.

My students do a worksheet where they practise writing the letter and the word.

Then they do the scrambled mystery sentence.

I made some alphabet charts and my students used these to write some more words that begin with the sound.
You can see my little one using the word chart below.

I made a version of this activity which is available on TPT.

I cannot include the Word Charts because some of the clip art I used is for personal use only.
If you are interested, my Sounds Words Sentences pack is available at TPT HERE
It will be on sale for 2 days.

If you are a teacher from NSW and would like this pack in NSW Foundation font, you can email me after you purchase it and I will send it to you.

Stamp It!

I know I have been MIA.
It seems like forever since I posted on my l'il blog.
Due to some staff changes at my school, I am not teaching my Kindergarten class.
I am back teaching Reading Recovery for the rest of the year and I also teach RFF K-6.
WHEW!!! I feel like haven't had time to come up for air.

RFF is Release From Face to Face Teaching.
Here in NSW Australia, Primary teachers K-6 have 2 hours a week release time for planning and preparation.

When I'm not teaching Reading Recovery, I go onto classes and relieve teachers for their release time.

Kindergarten is where my heart is!
Anyway I created my STAMP IT pack for my little Kinders even though I am not teaching them.

Kids LOVE to stamp!
This is a fun way for your little ones to learn about letters sounds and words.

This pack could be used in a centre for the whole year.
I have included a lot of sheets for each part.
All you need are some alphabet stamps and you're done.
I have included Alphabet ~ Uppercase and Lowercase Letter matching, High Frequency Words, CVC Words, Rhyming Words, Blends Digraphs~sh & ch, Beginning Sounds and Ending Sounds.

I purchased a great alphabet stamping set from Yogee Toys.
This supplier is from Australia.

If you would like to purchase my pack it is on sale for 24 hours.
It is available from TPT HERE

Happy Stamping!

Phonics Charts

I was looking for some sound charts and was even thinking I might make some myself.

Then I found these FANTASTIC Phonics charts on Amy Lemon's Blog.

She has made charts for the alphabet as well as digraphs.
They are SO cute and they are FREE!!

She posted them 2 years ago
I can't believe I have never seen them before.

They would make a great display for your classroom.

If you haven't seen them, you should check them out. You won't be disappointed.

I Spy With My Little Eye

Eye spy is such a fun game to reinforce sounds with your little ones.

My Eye Spy sounds activities can be done for morning work as a class or your little ones can complete a worksheet individually.

I have made a worksheet for each letter of the alphabet as well as a fun graph activity and revision sheets for your little ones to do.

If you are interested, these activities are available at TPT HERE

Happy teaching.

What have we been doing?

I didn't realise it was so long since I blogged.
My oh my time slips by so quickly when you are on Kindergarten or does it pass by slowly? Mmm..
I am always glad when Term 1 is over.

The beginning of Kindergarten is such a busy time.
I have a lovely class and I am really enjoying teaching them.
They have been working so well but oh boy I am 'zapped' by the end of the day.
We have been super busy and I have lots to share with you.

I thought I might share our valentines activities first.
I know it was 2 weeks ago but our room looks bright and cheerful with our colourful hearts.

We have been doing a Colours Unit so we did some fun activities for Valentines Day that fitted in perfectly.

I made this pocket chart and emergent reader called 'Hearty Fun' .
I forgot to take photos  but here is a peek at the activity.

We also did these cute hearts and writing activity.

These activities are available at TPT HERE.
Maybe for next year!

Happy teaching!
