Bees

Bees are fascinating little insects. We have been having a lot of fun learning about the bee community.

We started by learning about the different bees in the hive. The Queen, drone and workers.

We made a book about the jobs of the bees in the bee hive. My little ones can't write yet so we pasted the information into our books.

We made this cute bee to display our books.

This is the display of our bees.

We also learned about pollination and drew about it.

Note the arrows this little one did to show the bee taking pollen from one flower to another and the pollen sacs on the bee's legs.

These activities and many more are in my unit about the bee community on TPT HERE.
I will have more of our activities to show you tomorrow.

CVC Words Flip Books and Writing Activities

I have just finished my CVC Words Flip Books Activities.
There are 3 different activities to do for CVC Words.

CVC Words Flip Books

I start the activity by getting my little ones to make the flip book and then draw a picture to match the words where possible. Some words cannot be illustrated. I create Anchor Charts and we do lots of work stretching the letters before we do these activities.

The little ones have a worksheet to complete where they record their words and then draw and label some pictures.

 Read, Copy, Write, Draw.

This activity involves my little ones reading the words ~ note the ticks next to each word. They have to read each word 3 times and then tick the word.

Then they copy the words.

They have a jumbled sentence (using the words) to paste together correctly and then copy the sentence.

  Real and Nonsense Word Sort.

This is a good activity that gets your little ones stretching out the words and thinking about whether the word is a real word or not.

All these activities are available in my

You can download a sample of the activities to try at my TPT store HERE

More Pete the Cat

My copy of Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons arrived yesterday and it did not disappoint. Another great Pete the Cat story. I just loved the ending.

If you are planning on doing some activities about this latest book, you should have look at a great song by Heather Bishop called Bellybutton. I have been singing this song with my little ones for many years, its such a fun song all about belly buttons.

There is a short preview of the song  HERE

Heather Bishop is a Canadian Folk singer. My school took all our little ones to see her perform here in Australia many years ago. She had the children up doing fun actions to her song. After attending her performance I just had to have a copy of the song. I know you will love it too. We have performed this song for parents many times.

I have her CD because there are other great songs on it like 'If you Love a Hippopotamus'. You can purchase Bellybutton from iTunes.

If you haven't read Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons yet you are probably wondering why I am talking about belly buttons....

I can't wait for next week so that we can do my Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons activities.
Andi over at Pencils, Glue & Tying Shoes has already got her copy of Pete The Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons and her little ones have done my activities. They look SO cute. Take a peek.

Kindergarten Sight Word Activities

We have been focusing the sight word 'ON' this week. We started by making a little emergent reader called Where is the Rain? Have a look at the great work my little ones did with this activity.

After they had highlighted the word 'on' I told them to find the first letter of the word to help them find the correct picture for each page. Once they had pasted all of their pictures into their book, they labeled each picture. I like to get my little ones to do as much reading and writing as possible but always providing scaffolding and lots of support.

The next day we completed my flip book activity focusing on the word 'on'. The little ones make a flip book that they can read independently. These books have simple text with picture support for each word change. The children then complete a worksheet where they practice writing the sight word as well as write sentences from their flip book.

All of my little ones work so hard on their activities.

Kindergarten is such a rewarding grade to teach. Hard work.... yes, especially at the beginning of the year but it is so wonderful to see how they grow.

These activities are for free on my TPT store HERE
I have also included the flip book activity for you to try.

If you like my Sight Word Flip Books, you can purchase them at my TPT store HERE.
