Fun in the Snow.

It is Summer down here in Australia and we are having great weather. 

I love the warm weather but I also like it when it's cold. 

We had a lot of fun when it was winter doing lots of fun snowman activities.

Here is a peek at what we did.

 We did a snowman glyph.

My little ones did such a great job.

We wrote about our snowman.

We labeled a snowman.

We also read 

Snowmen at Night and Snowmen All Year 
by Caralyn Buehner

We did a fun craftivity about Snowmen at Night and did a writing activity
If I were a snowman at night. . .
 

We read some poems and also did this snowman poetry craftivity.

We did lots of other activities.

Pete the Cat Saves Christmas

My little ones love Pete the Cat books. 

We had a lot of fun doing activities about Pete the Cat Saves Christmas.

Here is the craft activity that we did.

 

 

 We did a Pete the Cat craftivity with a simple cloze and then my little ones drew their favourite part of the story.

CURRENTLY December

Wow December is here AGAIN!

I can't believe how the year has gone ~ it seems like just a blink.

I have to say I LOVE  everything Christmas.

I so enjoy decorating the house. 

The tree is up, but there are no presents under the tree because I need to go shopping.

 

I love the time I spend with family and friends.

Christmas feels good.

It is nearly the end of our school year and everyone is tired, teachers and kids!

We have had reports to write, organise classes for next year, lots of end of year stuff... and some teachers have to move classrooms. 

Fortunately I am staying where I am for next year~ SIGH of relief.

I want school to be over so I can just focus on CHRISTMAS.

Everyone comes to my house so I am super busy with preparations.

As you know I am from the 'land down under'. 

 My house is surrounded by very large flowering gum trees.

Not all gum trees have flowers.

If you know May Gibbs' books Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, she has those flowering gums and the gum nuts in her stories.

Anyway, the gum trees have yellow flowers at present and the birds, especially the parrots are having a lovely time getting the nectar from the flowers. 

I can hear them all day.  

Because of the large gum trees around my house, we have a lot of birds, especially kookaburras.

They love to start laughing about 7.30 at night and 4.00 in the morning. 

I do love them but not at 4.00 am in the morning!!

Yesterday morning there was a kookaburra seeking refuge on my outdoor deck. He was there for several hours. This is very unusual for them to do that. 

 I noticed that one of his eyes was all white, he had obviously  injured it. 

Kookaburras have very sharp eye sight and rely on that to catch their food. 

Because he had been on my deck for such a long time, I decided to see if he was hungry and yep, as soon as I threw him some mince, he was into it. 
I am a soft touch when it comes to animals.

The Elf On The Shelf

We have been having lots of elf fun in my classroom. 

My little ones are all trying so hard so that they will be on Santa's 'nice' list.

This is my first year with our classroom elf and I must say I think it is pretty darn cute.

There are lots of great ideas for  Elf on the Shelf activities.

 We have been having lots of elf fun in my classroom as well.

My book arrived last week and my little ones were so excited!

 Our elf is a girl. 

My little ones were quite amused that an elf could be a girl!! 


We voted on a name for our elf. 
My little ones called her
 Twinkles.

Twinkles likes spending the day with Pete and Chester.

They help her look for who is being naughty or nice.

 Twinkles sometimes pops up in a reading box.

 
 We made made an elf adjectives anchor chart.

 We used our adjectives in our silly elf sentences. 

 

 We also did a fun graph and maths activity.

I wrote a poem called The Little Elf. Here is our pocket chart.

I also made a reader for my little ones to take home.

 

We did a text to self writing activity to go with our elf that we made.
~ I am being nice when. . . ~

We wrote about ways we can be 'nice'.

This activity is particularly good at this time of year when my little ones are so excited and tired. 
It is a good reminder about doing the right thing and being a 'nice' person.

We have been having lots of elf fun!!

The Gingerbread Man

It feels like forever since I did my last post. I have been so busy.

We only have 2 weeks left till school finishes and I can't wait. 

We have been having a lot of fun in my classroom. Last week we did lots of activities about the Gingerbread Man. This story is such a classic. 

We had a fun Gingerbread Man hunt. I have been doing the "Great Gingerbread Man Hunt" for several years. I got this idea from Mrs Gagne's Classroom. I just tweeked the clues to suit our needs.

My little ones got so excited as we tripped-trapped around the school looking for the elusive gingerbread man!

Here we are trying to be quiet so that we could sneak up on the Gingerbread man.

The gingerbread man had been in the library and he left us another clue. Can you see the intense concentration as our librarian read out the next clue.

 

The Gingerbread Man had been at the office and left us another clue!

 

Next stop, the principal's office. My students had no problem opening cupboards and drawers looking for the Gingerbread Man!!

We did manage to catch that Gingerbread Man. We took a photo of him with us before we ate him all up!

And that was the end of the Gingerbread Man!!

We did a lot of fun activities.
