Gone Batty and a Freebie

After we had finished reading Stellaluna,  we were busy learning all about bats.
We  wrote bat facts in our Bat Book and then displayed it on our bat.

As a class we did a Venn Diagram and compared bats and birds.

Here is our bulletin board with our bat display.

We also read Bat Jamboree by Kathi Appelt.

We did a cute Bat Jamboree Glyph and wrote what our bat was going to do at the Jamboree.

This little one wrote that her bat was singing One Direction ~ cute!

Here is our display.

We did many other fun activities

Stellaluna

Have you read the book Stellaluna by Janell Cannon?
It is a heartwarming story about a baby bat who loses her mother.

The story takes you through many emotions and ends with a lovely message pointing out that while we are different we are still the same.
The expression on my little ones faces were priceless as they were drawn into the story and expressed their sadness, their concern and their love for Stellaluna.

The pictures in the book are worth a thousand words.

If you go to Storyline Online Pamela Reed reads Stellaluna and brings the story to life.

We did many activities about Stellaluna.

We did a reading response activity about the story as well as this cute little craft activity.

We also did a story map

Because Stellaluna is a  fruit bat we did a fun graphing activity, What is Stellaluna's favourite fruit?

We went on to learn about bats and did lots of other fun activities.
I will post about them tomorrow.
I will also have a freebie for you.

All of these activities and lots more are available in my

Bear Snores On Activities

It is now Spring down here in Australia and I am SO looking forward to warmer days.
Springtime sure makes you feel good after a cold winter.
We have done a lot of Winter activities.

We did some fun activities about the story Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson.

I have the CD with the story. Listening to the CD really brings the story to life.

We did a fun graphing activity called 'What Woke Up Bear'. For a bit of fun, my little ones had a guess what they thought would wake up bear. They graphed the results on their recording sheet.

Using the graph, we did some simple addition activities.

We also did a Syllable Sort for one and two syllable words.

We had a discussion about whether 'fire' had one or two syllables. This is a tricky one and either is correct. So I let my little ones decide.

We also did a reading response and craft activity. We are more than half way through Kindergarten and it warms my heart when I see how far they have come with their writing.

My little ones were so excited when they saw our bulletin board.  I had this great picture of a bear that finished off our display beautifully.

Here is a preview of the activities in my pack on TPT.

If you would like to purchase these activities, go to my TPT store HERE

Stay tuned for some more of our fun activities that we did for Winter. I have also got a Winter freebie coming up.
